How PDF OCR Works
Learn what the OCR PDF tool creates and when scanned documents need OCR.
What OCR adds
The OCR PDF tool reads scanned pages and adds a searchable text layer back onto the document.
This makes it easier to search, highlight, and copy text from PDFs that originally behaved like page images.
When OCR works best
OCR works best when the scan is reasonably clear, properly aligned, and matched to the right language setting.
If the source file is blurry or very low contrast, the output may still need a manual review after processing.
What to do after OCR
After OCR, you might export content to Word or Excel, inspect metadata, or create a flattened share copy for easier handoff.
If the output still does not look right, contact support and mention the source language and scan quality.
