How Compare PDF works
What is compared
Compare PDF checks two documents page by page. Text mode compares the extractable text, and visual mode also looks at page appearance, so you can spot both wording and layout changes.
Reading the results
After the comparison you see a summary of the differences, a list of changes per page, and a side-by-side preview. You can also export a comparison report and an annotated copy of the revised file.
Good uses
Typical uses include reviewing a revised contract, checking edits between two versions of a report, and confirming that only the expected changes were made before you share a file.
Settings you can adjust
You can ignore whitespace, letter case, punctuation, page numbers, and repeated headers and footers, and you can choose how sensitive the comparison is.
If one or both files have no extractable text, the workflow falls back to visual comparison and suggests running OCR first.
What compare does not do
The comparison is literal: it matches text and page appearance, not meaning. It does not verify who created a document or whether a document is authentic, and it is not an AI-based semantic review.
